Coming from Italy with courage and determination to offer a better future to their five children.

In 1970, Filomena and Michele Petta left their homeland, the Molise region in Castelmauro, to find decent work and raise their family in Belgium. Mr. Petta’s hard work as a road worker and Nonna Filomena’s talent as a seamstress paid off, instilling in their children a love for hard work.

Angelo Sabatelli

Our chef, straight from Puglia

Angelo-Sabatelli

Angelo Sabatelli, born in Monopoli, a picturesque village on the Italian Adriatic coast, on January 1, 1969, has built a brilliant culinary career worldwide. At the age of 13, he began working in a famous restaurant in Polignano a Mare, where he perfected the art of working with fish. His passion for cooking led him to pursue studies in hospitality, developing a particular affection for Italian pastry. His military service taught him discipline, attention to detail, and perfectionism, qualities that have marked his career.

After years of experience in Italy as a sous-chef and chef in renowned establishments, Angelo Sabatelli earned his first Michelin star at the Il Convivio Restaurant in Rome, just eight months after taking the helm.

He was then recruited for prestigious international positions:

  • Hyatt Regency Aryaduta 5*LHotel , Jakarta: where he became the chef while learning English.
  • Grand Hyatt 5*L Hotel, Hong Kong: he took on a new challenge by managing the Grissini Restaurant. 
  • Ritz-Carlton 5*L Hotel, Shanghai: he oversaw four restaurants, including the best in the city. 
  • One & Only Le Touessrok 5*L Hotel, Mauritius: he undertook consultancy missions.

Angelo Sabatelli finally returned to his home region to open his own establishment, Angelo Sabatelli Ristorante, located in Putignano in Puglia. The family legacy of Nonna Filomena

The Petta Group was founded in the 1990s, bringing together several companies in various sectors of entrepreneurship.

In 2009, the hotel adventure began when the family discovered a bankrupt establishment for sale. This hotel, soulless and with no apparent future, was but a shadow of its former self. The place became a real passion for the family, who took on the challenge of transforming it into one of the best 4-star establishments in Belgium.

Since 2009, over ten waves of renovation have been carried out to reach the current level we offer today.

At the helm of this business is Pauline Petta, CEO, who wanted to pay tribute to the one without whom none of this would have been possible: Nonna Filomena. The captain of the family ship, an iron fist in a velvet glove… The one who raised her five children while working tirelessly, who instilled the most precious Italian values in them, the one who cooked divinely well, and to whom we pay tribute through this Trattoria.
